Dan Doucette was born during the blizard of ’77 in Niagara Falls, Canada. His first traveling experiences were with his family to a resort for a week or two during the holidays. It wasn’t until 1998, when he graduated college as a Horticulturist, that traveling started to become his life’s passion.  Later that year, he went to Perth in Western Australia to visit his brother. The following year he went to Peru. The majestic scenery and amazing wildlife along with the relaxed pace of life, stirred an intense desire in him to visit other tropical countries. ” I developed an insatiable appetite to explore new places and its dominated my life ever since.”

Dan works seasonally as a Horticulturist which translates to working about 7 months and being laid off for 5 months every year.  He saves his money in the summer and travels for 4 months, allowing himself a buffer zone of a few weeks before to prepare and after traveling, for re-entry. “My money goes a lot further in the tropics, which is another reason why I prefer  this part of the world but sometimes my travels take me beyond the tropics as well. Since Peru I have been to Antarctica, Australia, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa  Rica, Panama, Dominica, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Guyana, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, Kenya, Uganda, DR Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, Madagascar, Malawi, Namibia,  South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, India, The Philippines, China, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal,  Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Iceland and The Netherlands.”

Dan always seeks out countries with at least some rainforest, but the more the better! “The tropical rainforest is my absolute favorite habitat and I feel in my element while exploring it.  It’s the richest habitat on Earth for plants and animals, but also the most threatened. I think everyone should visit a rainforest and experience this amazing natural wonder of the world at least once in their life, before it’s too late.”
